Making a deadline on a sailing boat, the origin of sail boat racing?   Now I know what the pilot boats of old must have felt like racing out to the sailing ships to be the first to bring them in and get paid! Why do sailors shout?   If the captain of a plane regularly screamed and shouted at his crew, would you fly again?!! Most Dinghy Sailors find Yacht racing boring!   Having grown up enjoying One-design racing in dinghies - I find handicap racing on yachts takes a long time and to be frank is a bit boring.. There are alternatives Why I paid to do the RYA Dinghy Instructor Course last week?   As part of my ongoing Professional development I decided to do a 5 day instructor course run by Flying Fish on Sydney Harbour. I did not need to do this course to work at a dinghy centre in Australia as I already have the required qualification, however I felt I had a few gaps in my knowledge that I wanted filling despite my 20 years experience.
